About the event
Description:
As veterinary social work continues to grow internationally, its development in Western Canada presents both unique opportunities and ongoing gaps across education, social services, animal welfare, and veterinary care systems. This webinar will explore the intersection of social work and animal welfare, with a focus on the lack of formal roles, education, and system integration in the region. It will highlight how practitioners are already supporting people and their companion animals across sectors—often without formal recognition—and emphasize the importance of understanding companion animals as vital members of a person’s family and social support system. The session will also consider opportunities to strengthen this work through increased recognition, collaboration, and cross-sector development.
